On February 27-29, 2025, our staff joined an incredible group of Eeyou Istchee delegates at the International Indigenous Tourism Conference. Organized by the Indigenous Tourism Association of Canada (ITAC), IITC is the largest gathering of its kind in the world.
This year’s IITC was held in Montreal, and Cree excellence was on full display!
Attendees from far and wide enjoyed workshops hosted by Cree artists, with Deborah Ratt teaching beadwork and Tim Whiskeychan & Emma-Jane Dixon Whiskeychan presenting a guided painting session.

The Artisan Marketplace showcased a wide range of handcrafted items from Cree Native Arts and Crafts Association artists, while representatives from across our communities networked and shared knowledge throughout the week.

We also celebrated a remarkable achievement, as Nibiischii Corporation brought home the ITQ Best Enterprise of the Year Award. This award recognizes an Indigenous Tourism Quebec member for their “growth, contribution and accomplishments to the Indigenous tourism industry and in their communities.”
With its unique accommodations and exciting, sustainable, outdoor-adventure tourism offerings, the Mistissini-led Corporation stands out as a true example of Indigenous tourism excellence. Being part of their journey so far has been a delight for all of us at COTA, and watching them accept this illustrious award is something we will never forget!

We return home inspired and proud of how our members represented Eeyou Istchee at this amazing event! Congratulations once again to Nibiischii, and thank you to all who joined us for this very special week of learning, connecting, and celebrating together.
